Software Guide
Setup guides, protocol tutorials, and tips for NOTABLE Windy software.
Build a Protocol in 3 Steps
Windy simplifies complex liquid handling protocols into a three-step wizard. No coding knowledge required · anyone can start automating experiments right away.
LABWARE · Deck Layout Setup
Place tip boxes, plates, tubes, and other labware onto the deck. Simply drag and drop each item into the desired slot.
WELL · Well Selection & Transfer Settings
Drag to select source and target wells. Set volume, aspiration/dispense speed, mix count, and other parameters through an intuitive UI.
OPTIONS & RUN · Review and Execute
Review the full protocol and verify with simulation before running. Completed protocols can be saved and reused at any time.
How to Use Key Features
Transfer
Transfer a specified volume of liquid from source wells to target wells. Supports simultaneous multi-channel transfer. Fine-tune options such as Tip Depth, Blowout Volume, and Touch Tip.
Mix
Mix samples by repeatedly aspirating and dispensing in a specified well. Set the number of cycles, volume, and speed independently. Note: renaming a Mix Step may cause a UI screen transition · close and reopen the screen to confirm changes.
Save & Reuse Protocol
Completed protocols are saved as local files. Load a saved protocol to modify parameters or run it immediately as-is. The Re Run feature may be unstable · we recommend closing the protocol and relaunching for a fresh run.
Stopping a Protocol Mid-Run
Press the [STOP] button during a run to display a confirmation popup. Select YES to stop immediately, or NO to pause and resume later. Never reach inside the instrument while it is powered on · always stop the protocol through the software first.
Select Wells by Dragging
Drag across a 96-well plate to select a range of wells. Individual click selection and pattern-based selection (by row or column) are also supported.
-
Drag to select a continuous range -
Ctrl+click to add individual wells -
Bulk selection by row or column -
Volume auto-distributed evenly across selected wells
Optimal Settings by Liquid Type
Aqueous Solutions (buffers, water)
- Aspiration speed: default setting works well
- Blowout: set to Tip Waste
- Pre-wetting: not required
Viscous Liquids (serum, glycerol, oil)
- Aspiration/dispense speed: reduce to 50-70% of default
- Blowout Volume: increase
- Pre-wetting: aspirate/dispense 1-2 times before run
Small Volumes (<5µL)
- Aspiration speed: set to minimum
- Tip Depth: position well below the liquid surface
- Pre-wetting recommended
Foamy Liquids (detergents, surfactants)
- Dispense speed: set to minimum
- Tip Depth: position close to the bottom of the well
- Touch Tip: enable recommended
