NEWSLETTERThe First Step in Selecting a Liquid Handler for Experiment Automation

While human scientific capabilities have advanced, the emergence rate of new viruses has also accelerated. During the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers had to handle large volumes of samples in hazardous virus situations, leading to a rapid growth in the experiment automation market. Among them, automated liquid handling robots, hereinafter referred to as liquid handlers, often become the first consideration when considering robots, as they handle the basics of experiments.

Today's letter guides you to make the process of adopting a liquid handler for experiment automation smoother.

1. Why do we need automation?
  • Identify the nature of experiments. Consider the nature of the samples handled in your laboratory, how much volume you process (or how precise and accurate it needs to be), and whether the pipetting process is complex. Especially, human errors resulting from repetitive manual pipetting can be most effectively improved by liquid handlers.
  • Consider automation if your experiments need to continue over the weekends. Liquid handlers can replace manual pipetting, allowing you to spend valuable time with your family.
  • Liquid handlers can also be helpful when you want to conduct multiple experiments simultaneously. By registering multiple experiments to be performed concurrently in the protocol and executing the liquid handler, you can quickly process two experiments at once while directly pipetting.

2. What type of product do we need?
  • What environment are you experimenting in? Depending on the laboratory environment or the nature of the experiment, features such as grippers or HEPA filters may be required. Check if devices are needed to maintain sterility.
  • Check if equipment interoperability is required. Check if the existing or newly introduced experimental equipment needs to be seamlessly integrated. Equipment interoperability not only saves costs but also helps the experiment procedures to be organically connected, resulting in natural outcomes.

3. Can the considered product change along with market trends?
  • Ensure that it continues to be updated. As the experimental environment continues to evolve, it is advisable to consider whether the product can expand or be updated.
  • How about considering modular design? Modular system design provides flexibility to the product, allowing additional functions to be added or only necessary functions to be replaced. You can respond to current experiments without replacing the entire system.
  • Regular software upgrades help ensure the safety of our experiments and introduce the latest features.

4. Can we quickly address our issues?
  • Check for maintenance and repair services. Remote and on-site services for technical issues help extend the product's lifespan and maximize its utility.
  • Confirm the presence of a customer experience team. ABLE Labs' dedicated customer experience team manages the entire customer journey. From personalized pre-purchase support to post-purchase support and product upgrades, personalized service manages liquid handlers to ensure users can use them properly.

ABLE Labs always considers and updates to enable you to achieve experiment automation in the optimal environment. We strive for NOTABLE to become the standard for liquid handlers, so that everyone can focus on experiment results rather than repetitive tasks such as pipetting.
